Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the format of the tournaments?
Depending on the number of entries, the mens' competition will be
split into two divisions based upon the standard of the competing
teams. A round robin will be played to ensure all participating
teams have plenty of matches. Knockout semi-finals and finals will
be contested by the top teams and medals awarded to the winners. The
womens' tournament will also be played with round robin and medal
finals.
Who runs the tournament?
The Northern Territory Sepak Takraw Association (NTSTA) runs the
tournament under supervision of the Arafura Games organizers. NTSTA
has been managing sepak takraw at the Arafura Games since 1997and is
experienced in all aspects of tournament administration.
Internationally accredited referees will be brought to Darwin for
the tournament to ensure an appropriate standard of refereeing.
Participating teams are also asked to bring one official to assist
the referees.
Why come to play sepak takraw at the Arafura Games?
Sepak takraw in the Arafura Games is the largest sepak takraw
tournament held in multi-sport games outside Asia. It plays a vital
role in strengthening the reputation of sepak takraw as an
international sport. Participants also have the opportunity to
assist NTSTA in various promotional activities aimed at developing
sepak takraw in Australia.
Are there opportunities for volunteers?
Volunteers are required to help with a number of tasks at the
tournament including officiating, court management, administration,
media activities and hospitality. Volunteers receive access to all
sports, and the opening and closing ceremonies. Volunteering at the
Arafura Games is stimulating, challenging, and an excellent `hands
on' opportunity to learn about sepak takraw in particular. NTSTA
welcomes enquiries from community recreation officers and work
experience students.
